Training

This 14 week training course will help you in your personal growth and confidence of the sufficiency of God’s word for all of life. Essentials will equip you to be able to walk along-side those who are struggling, pointing them to the help and hope found in the gospel of Jesus Christ as you develop hands-on strategies for real-life situations.

This course includes 5 in-person meetings scheduled throughout the course for more learning, case studies and panel discussions. Guest speakers and biblical counsellors will share their insights on specific topics including: Anxiety and Depression, Struggles in Marriage, Addictions, Same-sex Attraction, and Sexual Abuse. These in-person sessions are informative and it is encouraging to be among the class working through the ACBC video series. The 28 hours of ACBC Fundamentals video training can be completed independently throughout the course.

This course is a more robust certified biblical counselling training program which runs from September to the end of April. ABC Level 1 training encourages believers to develop a biblical philosophy of the Christian life that includes active involvement in the community of believers. The course covers various counselling-related issues that include anxiety, depression, anger, addiction and sexuality.

Participants will read curriculum and journal articles, watch lectures, take exams, attend monthly in-person classes, participate in role-playing and case studies, and engage in a 10-week counselling practicum. The time commitment is approximately 7 hours per week. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded ABC’s Level 1 Certificate. ABC membership must be renewed annually to continue accreditation. Level 2 training is available upon completion of Level 1.

This 2 year course will walk you though the more practical, hands on approach to biblical counselling. The Association of Biblical Counsellors have dubbed this the ‘experience’ portion of biblical counselling training. With Level 1 as a prerequisite, this course goes deeper into the application of the knowledge gained from the studies done up to this point.

Counsellors-in-training will answer 35 questions on theology in short essay form. Counsellors in training are required to complete 100 hours of counseling divided into 20 hours observing, 20 hours being observed, and 60 hours of solo counseling. This process will include regular case study review, counseling journals, and assessments.  There is a two-year time frame to complete the course after enrollment. This course really puts you in a front row seat to see God at work in other peoples lives. Throughout the duration of this course you will have a designated supervisor to support and encourage you along the way.
